ACTIVITIES IN BRAZIL

Our humanitarian activities in Brazil started in the 1980’s on behalf of Ameropa AG. In 2002, they were formally taken over by the Ameropa Foundation.

Currently, the Foundation is supporting the following projects:

Support of four schools for basic, secondary and vocational education.
Institution for micro-credits and credits to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).
Agricultural projects with subsistence farmers.
Holistic project aiming at the integral betterment of the (ex)-favela and still marginalised community of Mãe Luiza, including educational, social, cultural, sportive and urbanistic measures.
Management of the Arena do Morro by our local partner, the Centro Sócio-Pastoral Nossa Senhora de Conceição in cooperation with the government of Rio Grande do Norte.

OUR KEY PROJECTS

ARENA DO MORRO

The Gymnasium Arena do Morro provides a vast record of services to the community of Mãe Luiza and to the city of Natal. It offers a diversity of daily activities from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week, and they are not only related to sports or leisure, but also to cultural events. All classes and events are free of charge.

MÃE LUIZA

The Ameropa Foundation has accompanied Mãe Luiza since 1992. At the time, Mãe Luiza was a miserable favela. Together with the leading people of the Centro Sócio-Pastoral Nossa Senhora de Conceição, founded by Padre Sabino in 1980, we had the vision to change this slum-like settlement into a modest community offering a life in peace and dignity.

PASSO DA PATRIA

One of the numerous favelas of Natal is Passo da Patria. It is situated on the outskirts of the city, on the shore of the Potengi river. About 6,000 people live there.

RIO DAS OSTRAS

Since 2004 the Foundation is supporting a vocational school in Rio das Ostras, a three hours’ drive from Rio. Roberto Kern, a Swiss expatriate and retired welder, opened a school for welders, mechanics and locksmiths.
