  • Sales increase of 16.3% to CHF 7.4 bio
  • Volume growth of 12.2% to 31.9 mio tons
  • Food supply chain maintained despite substantial obstacles
  • Ameropa Foundation funds reallocated to emergency relief activities
  • Outlook 2021: more favorable environment expected

Binningen, Switzerland, March 17th, 2021 – Swiss agricultural producer and trader Ameropa reports a stronger than expected year 2020. Sales increased 16.3% from CHF 6.358 bio in 2019 to CHF 7.396 bio in 2020. Sold volumes grew from 28.405 mio tons to 31.858 mio tons (+12.2%), while average prices increased by 4%. Operating profit is above budget and previous year.

Despite the Covid-19 challenges, a historical drought in one of its core markets – Romania -, a fire at its headquarters, and other challenges throughout the year, Ameropa was able to maintain its operations and supply chain throughout the year. Ameropa is especially proud to have been able to maintain its entire staff and to have continued playing fully its role in helping feed the world.

The ongoing strengthening of the company continued with the adoption of a new organizational structure, progress made on its processes and the launch of a global strategic review. Long term programs also progressed such as the ’Path to Excellence’ initiative in Romania focussing on improved energy efficiency.

The Ameropa Foundation continued delivering on its mission to implement social and entrepreneurial projects creating jobs and incomes in various geographies but had to postpone some and reallocate funds to emergency relief activities, as the communities in Brazil and Uganda where it is active in were hard hit by the pandemic.

Positive outlook
In 2021, Ameropa anticipates the general environment to be more favourable than in 2020, including a rebound in global demand and a return to normal in Romania.
