To further strengthen the impact of the foundation’s projects in the community of Kamwokya (started in 2009), the renowned architect from Burkina Faso, Francis Kéré, agreed to build (pro bono) together with the community a playground and plaza. The aim is to make this community center a space for the development of the children and youth of the slum of Kamwokya.
Construction of the Kamwokya Community Playground finally got underway on 1st February 2021, with the ribbon cutting ceremony taking place on 14th October 2022. The ceremony ended with a great downpour of rain, a sign of good luck in the Ugandan culture.
The ceremony was attended by the Swiss Ambassador, the president of the Ugandan Olympic Committee, Kéré Architecture, Honoraries from the Ugandan government and church as well as representatives of international organizations along with representatives from the Ameropa Foundation and Group. Interest and echoes of support from the local press and TV was enormous.
